Block Institute prides itself in providing quality support to families with a member who is developmentally disabled. Consistent with Block Institute’s expressed mission to assist in improving the quality of life for individuals with special needs and their families, Family Support Services are available to educate, support and help facilitate individuals and their families access needed services.

We assist in obtaining the following services:

Respite Services:

Innovative afterschool program

The Innovative Afterschool program has been a staple of Block Institutes respite services since 2010. Running every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. Block Institute provides after school care to children and adults diagnosed within Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Qualifications for this special program are children and adults must be age seven or older, OPWDD /HCBS waiver eligible. Highlights of the After School respite program are aquatic activities, and a special martial arts program. Limited transportation is available.

School Holiday

The School Holiday Respite program serves those who are OPWDD and HCBS waiver eligible. This program is offered during school breaks in December, February, and Spring (March, April) for children age’s three to eight. The children in this program are provided with transportation to and from the facilities, while providing these special needs children with structured activities and relief to the families.

End of Summer Respite Camp

This unique program runs during the last two weeks of August. This program provides children age three to eight who are OPWDD/ HCBS waiver eligible the opportunity to utilize Block Institute programs in the final weeks of summer before they return to school. Like the all of the other respite programs offered by Block Institute, aquatic services and transportation services are provided for this program.

Medicaid Service Coordination

Non-Medicaid Case Management

Non-Medicaid case management services will assist families in obtaining Office of People with Developmental Disability (OPWDD) eligibility and all of the services needed to better the life of your family member. The Non-Medicaid case manager will also assist you through the Medicaid waiver process which will allow you to get long term care services for your loved one.

Free Non Medicaid Evaluations

We provide comprehensive psychological and psychosocial to families seeking OPWDD / HCBS waiver eligibility. The clinicians will travel to your home or your family members program. Please review the attached application (please click here) and submit the following documents by mail:
